Clearwater has a really great scene and a lot of artists that are active and producing and selling their work. In the normal course of your day. as you walk around, you will come across a number of high quality galleries that are displaying fine art. Art really is part of the lifeblood of the local community - there is a lot of great art in public spaces as well, and it really transforms the way you can perceive the area.

The Clearwater Art Walk serves as the perfect event to introduce you to or remind you of what an artistic place you live in, or if you are from out of town and you are visiting, you will see what great artists Clearwater has to offer.

Come And See Us July 27th!

Here at Buzzazz, the company that built Wabamm, we are very supportive of the artists in our local community, and we have worked closely with several of them to help them promote their work. As part of our continuing support of local art we are taking part in this great event, and we will be having something very special happening at Buzzazz that you won't want to miss.

We are at 645 Cleveland St right opposite the Post Office, and we look forward to meeting you on Friday July 27th between 6 and 9pm.
An Echelman Sculpture In St Petersburg

World Renowned Artist's Sculpture For St Pete

If you like art, and you like sculpture, and you live in St Petersburg, there is some good news for you - a sculpture by Janet Echelman is coming your way.

Mayor Kriseman has secured private donations of approximately $1.5 million to  make the sculpture happen.

Echelman is a world renowned sculptor who "reshapes urban airscapes" with her vast and dynamic aerial sculptures. She has given a Ted Talk and other lectures, has been featured in magazines from Time to Wired, and has created some beautiful and iconic works that you would surely recognize even if you don't recall the name.

It will be a signature piece for the Pier District, which is currently under construction.

Tampa Born Artist Creates Beautiful Aerial Sculptures

Janet Echelman was born in Tampa, and Kriseman presented her with the key to the city in 2016.

Three prominent backers of the project have been Premier Eye Care CEO Lorna Taylor, former Florida House Speaker Peter Wallace and his wife, St. Petersburg Poet Laureate Helen Pruitt Wallace.

Art is very important to the cultural life of St Petersburg - it has a thriving art district and a very active spoken word scene, and great music, among many other great reasons to love the city.

The lifespan of the sculpture is projected to be 25 to 30 years, and it would possibly be located at Spa Beach, though this may change if the opposition from the Waterfront Parks Foundation is successful. Wherever it finds its eventual home it will definitely be something worth seeing.
Clearwater Downtown Development Revitalised

An Old Development Poised To Become Vital Resource

If you have lived in Clearwater for any length of time you will have seen the unfinished development opposite the Nolen on Cleveland Street. It's been there a while, and you may have given pause to wonder whether or not it was ever going to achieve completion as a project. Well, now, it seems, they are closing on that finish line, and a landmark is going to be transformed into something vital that really adds to the town.

There seems to be a lot happening locally, and the fact that the new owners took on a challenge to complete the project in 30 months, to avoid the penalties accrued previously, makes it an exciting race against time.

GSP Development's plan will give us a restaurant with a coffee shop - always a welcome addition, parking, a dog wash and bike storage on the ground floor. Residents are also going to have the benefit of a fitness center, a golf simulator, and a party room and pool deck.

Clearwater Is In An Exciting Phase Of Growth

The technology industry is well represented in the town, and the downtown waterfront is going to be undergoing its own revitalization. It is an exciting time for the city.

There is a lot of push in the area to have more social activities, and there are more and more community based initiatives springing up, supported by local philanthropists, volunteers, churches, and businessmen. To see the way that community leaders worked to help people after the hurricane was inspirational, and that same flow of help is present in other areas of city life. Any expansion is an indicator that things are going right in the town, and is also a great demonstration that people are seeing and creating more and more opportunities.

Strawless For The Summer For The Animals

Handling The Plastic Straw Problem And Helping The Animals

One thing that you probably don't think too much about is drinking straws, and you are therefore unlikely to be aware of their impact on the environment. Who would have thought that 100,000 marine animals are killed by debris like plastic straws every year? And likewise, who imagine the number of species that are impacted in such a large way by this kind of pollution? Living in such a beautiful place with such a wide variety of animals, and then hearing about this kind of carelessness is a little distressing, but knowing that there are people out there who are working hard to combat it, and to protect the wildlife gives you a lot of hope.

Frenchy's Restaurant has made the switch from plastic straws, and Solid Waste officials are encouraging others to follow suit.

Beautiful Wildlife Is Something It Is Surprisingly Easy To Help

When you travel around the area, and you see the fish, and the turtles, and the dolphins, and all of the other species that make up the ecology of Clearwater and the surrounding area really are a beautiful resource, and for something as easily avoidable as plastic pollution to be addressed and handled really would be a great thing, not just for the animals themselves, but also for the people who live here and visit and come partly to see and experience these kind of things.

It's great to know about these kind of initiatives that you can easily contribute to as well. Thinking about the animals and then thinking about the plastic straws you use, it is an easy choice to make about what you should do with your own litter and waste products.
