Participate In Local St. Petersburg, Florida Activities

This wonderful activity is being hosted in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. If you are looking for things to do with your family, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

On Sunday afternoon, February 17th, 2019 at 3:00 PM, The St. Petersburg Branch of The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc., “ASALH”, joins with Temple Beth El, and St. Petersburg College, to host a screening of the documentary “Rosenwald” produced by the Ciesla Foundation. The film will be shown at 4:00 PM in the Music Center at the Gibbs Campus of St. Petersburg College. Refreshments will be served at 3:00 PM.

The Ciesla Foundation, a Washington, D.C.- based nonprofit, produces documentaries that break stereotypical images of Jews in history and celebrates untold stories of heroes. The foundation’s latest film, “Rosenwald”, tells the inspiring story of Julius Rosenwald, an immigrant’s son who became CEO of Sears, Roebuck & Company and used his wealth to support equal rights for African Americans during the Jim Crow era. His support of education, aided by African American educator Booker T. Washington, led to the construction of nearly 5,000 public schools for black children. He also supported the arts, science and housing for middle-class African Americans. He left a legacy that influenced the Civil Rights Movement and continues to resonate today. “Rosenwald” is told through archival film and photographs, feature film clips, and interviews with historians, museum curators, poets, Rosenwald family members, African American leaders, and Rosenwald school alumni.
